Online Databases

EBSCOHost is a subscription based service that provides access to the ATLA Religion Index, Old Testament Abstracts, and New Testament Abstracts. These databases provide comprehensive bibliographic information about articles, essays, and reviews in theological and religious studies. Many of the articles are available in full text.

NOTE: Current MTS students, faculty, and staff can access EBSCOHost databases through Memphis Theological Seminary’s Intranet.

The MTS Library provides alumni/ae access to ATLA Serials, Religion collection through ATLAS Alumni  Contact MTS Library for login information.

First Search is a subscription service that provides access to numerous bibliographic databases including the WorldCat.  The authorization and password to access FirstSearch are available to MTS students, faculty, and staff.  Due to our licensing agreement, we can not post the authorization and password on the website.

Tennessee Electronic Library is a subscription based  service that provides bibliographic information and limited full-text access to periodical articles and other materials on a wide variety of subjects.  Again, the authorization and password are available for MTS students, faculty, and staff at the MTS Library.

Oxford African American Studies Center provides full-text access to more than 7,500 articles related to African American history and culture.

Old Testament Abstracts provides comprehensive bibliographic information about books, articles, essays, and reviews in Old Testament studies.  Access to the online database is through EBSCOHost.

New Testament Abstracts provides comprehensive bibliographic information about books, articles, essays, and reviews in New Testament studies. Access to the online database is through EBSCOHost.

Web Resources

Christian Classics Ethereal Library provides free, full-text access to classical Christian texts from throughout history.  This site is especially useful in finding primary sources from the patristic and medieval periods of Christian history.

The Henry McNeal Turner Project is a digital archival project dedicated to the writings and study of Bishop Henry McNeal Turner, the twelfth Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. This project was curated and directed by Andre E. Johnson, Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Memphis.

Hymnary is a comprehensive index of hymns and hymnals.

Online Writing Lab provided by the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary is an excellent guide to writing and research in the theological curriculum.

Memphis C.S. Lewis Society provides information the study of the life and writings of Clive Staples Lewis (1898 – 1963).

Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary’s Online Writing Lab  is an excellent guide to writing and research in the theological curriculum.

Project Wittenberg provides full-text access to many of the works of Martin Luther and other Lutheran classics.

University of Calgary Religious Studies Web Guide provides links to credible websites about many world religions, sects, and denominations. Links are arranged both by religious group and format type.

Wabash Center Guide to Internet Resources for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion provides links to credible websites on theological topics. Links are arranged both by subject area and format type.

Periodicals

Doctor of Ministry Projects and Master of Arts Theses

The MTS Library houses published projects (list updated 10/25/07) from its Doctor of Ministry program and theses from the MTS Master of Arts program (link to the PDF file is a work in progress).  These projects are unique contributions to ministerial professional knowledge.

Interlibrary Loan

Journal articles and library resources not held in our collection may be available through Inter-Library loan. Application for this service can be made at the Circulation Desk. Policy for use of borrowed materials is set by the lending library. Please email the library for more information.

FirstSearch
