ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Below are the requirements to be admitted into each program. By clicking Application in the bottom right corner of the selected program you will be able to download a written application. Applications can be emailed, faxed or mailed instructions are provided on the application. If you have any questions contact the Admissions department.

Applicants who expect to apply for scholarships must meet the early application deadline for the program they are applying for in order to receive a scholarship for their first semester.

Master of Divinity

For admission to the Master of Divinity (MDiv), the applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale. This degree must be from a college or university accredited by the regional accrediting association. No particular major is required for admission.

Application packet includes:

  • application form of specified master’s degree program
  • a non-refundable application fee of $45
  • reference forms (1 clergy, 1 lay, 1 academic or professional)
  • official transcript/s from all colleges, universities, and graduate schools applicant has ever attended (Official transcripts must be sent directly to Admissions at MTS from the Registrar of the school the transcript is coming from.)
  • Personal Essay: three to five typed, double-spaced pages including: (1) brief biography, (2) a narrative of your spiritual journey, (3) why is a seminary education at MTS important to you and (4) what do you hope this degree at MTS will do to help you contribute to the betterment of the church and broader society?

Application

Master of Arts Christian Ministry

Doctor of Ministry

For admission to the Doctor of Ministry (DMin) program, the applicant must have a Master of Divinity degree or must meet the requirements of Master of Divinity equivalency (see Academic Catalog). Final decisions on MDiv equivalency are made by the registrar.

Application packet includes:

  • an application form for the Doctor of Ministry program
  • a non-refundable application fee of $60
  • 3 Recommendation forms
  • Reflection Paper: five to eight pages, typewritten and double spaced, including a brief biography, a statement of your theology of ministry, and an assessment of your practice of ministry.
  • official transcript/s from all colleges, universities, and graduate schools applicant has ever attended (Official transcripts must be sent directly to Admissions at MTS from the Registrar of the school the transcript is coming from.)

Application

Netters Certificate in Ministry

The Netters Certificate in Ministry is for persons who are active in congregational life but not interested in pursuing a master’s-level degree. This program is for associate ministers, Sunday School teachers, committee chairpersons, and others who serve the church. No degree is required for this program.

Application packet includes:

  • an application form of specified certification program
  • 1 recommendation form
  • a non-refundable application fee of $15

Fekecia is a graduate of The University of Tulsa (2004) and of Memphis Theological Seminary (2012). She serves as Youth Minister at St. Andrew AME Church in Memphis, TN.

Rev. Dr. Felecia R. LaVant

Admissions Associate/Recruiter

Felecia completed both her MDIV (2014) and DMIN (2020) degrees at Memphis Theological Seminary, and appreciates how MTS equips men and women to serve in ministry both in the church and the world. She serves as an Associate Minister at Central Baptist Church, Inc. and is the proud mother of daughters, Andraea LaVant and Alexandria Johnson.

Felecia is passionate about helping people become equipped to walk fully in their God ordained purpose. you will often hear her say “Customer satisfaction is my primary goal!” and you leave her presence believing it too.
