Dear Friend of Memphis Theological Seminary,

I am writing to thank you for your generosity in helping to fund the Dr. Henry Logan Starks Scholarship. I appreciate being selected as a recipient for the academic year 2013-14. Currently, I am the pastor of Greater Temple of Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Given the opportunity to preach the word of God is truly a blessing for me, but I believe my gift is in the teaching of the Word. I believe I am called to interpret the scriptures in a way that will help others gain a better understanding of it. My future plans are to continue pastoring God’s people and someday be able to teach in a classroom setting.

I am truly blessed to be a part of the Memphis Theological Seminary family, and my journey here has been exciting and yet challenging. I chose to do my graduate work at MTS because of the great scholars and its biblical integrity. I look forward to completing my studies, and my prayer is that God will allow me to absorb all that I can.

Being able to receive the Starks scholarship is truly a blessing to me in so many ways. It will now help me continue the journey that God has placed me on, and to excel in the classroom.

Sincerely,

Donald A. Collins

Dear Friends of Memphis Theological Seminary,

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your generosity in donating to the Dr. Henry Logan Starks Scholarship Fund.  I am extremely appreciative of being selected as a 2013-2014 recipient.

I am in my second year studying to receive a Master of Divinity degree as a full-time student at MTS.  Initially, I started out as a part-time student while maintaining a full-time job. Upon accepting my call, I realized that I needed to completely devote myself to preparing for this next season of my life.  I took the next step on my faith walk and quit my job to enroll full-time.  This has been the best experience of my life.  I am so happy that I have a chance to walk in my call and work towards who God wants me to become.

When I began researching seminaries in the area, MTS stood out.  It seemed to be the most inclusive with a variety of denominations in its student population.  Also, it seemed to be the most supportive of women in ministry, which was important to me.  I am so glad I chose MTS.  I have had the opportunity to learn and grow while meeting a lot of wonderful people.

At this time, I am on track to graduate in December 2014, when I hope to enter into full-time ministry.  However, I am not eliminating the possibility of pursuing my Ph.D. in Religion.  I am open to the possibilities of God, which are endless.

Receiving this scholarship is a true blessing for me, as I already have student loan debt from pursuing another degree.  This scholarship will help me not incur as much debt while at MTS.  Again, thank you so much for your kindness.  I will do my best to make this a good investment for you.

Sincerely,

Kamilah Hall Sharp
