MTS Trustee named Metro District Superintendent

Dr. Deborah B. Smith, Metro District Superintendent

Bishop William T. McAlilly of the Nashville Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church announced today his intention to appoint the Reverend Dr. Deborah B. Smith as the superintendent of the Metro District in the Memphis Conference later this year. Smith will assume the new role beginning in June of 2017, with the setting of new appointments at the 2017 session of the Memphis Annual Conference.

Dr. Smith has served as the Senior Pastor of Centenary United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, since 2011. A graduate of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University (Master of Divinity) and Louisiana State University (Doctor of Philosophy), she began her ministry at Bethany United Methodist Church in the Louisiana Conference. Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Smith served at Germantown United Methodist Church as the Minister of Outreach and Mission. In addition, she currently serves as the Memphis Conference Chair on the Commission of Equitable Compensation. Dr. Smith also serves on the Memphis Conference Board for Ordained Ministry and the Advisory Council for Project Transformation. She recently completed her tenure as Memphis Conference Chair of the Outreach Advocacy Action Team.
