We Do Not Grieve as Those Who Have No Hope
(Week 2 of 2)

Lee Ramsey is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and member of the Memphis Annual Conference.  Dr. Ramsey joined the MTS faculty in 1998 to teach in the areas of pastoral care and preaching. His scholarly interests include Wesleyan practices of pastoral care, the relationship between pastoral care and preaching, pastoral care in times of grief and loss, and the use of fiction and film to explore the practices of Christian ministry. Dr. Ramsey is the author of Care-full Preaching: From Sermon to Caring Community; Preachers and Misfits, Prophets, and Thieves: The Minister in Southern Fiction; and of various scholarly and professional articles.

In addition to his teaching and writing, Dr. Ramsey serves as the Director of the Methodist House of Studies at MTS. This program provides a distinctively Wesleyan ethos for Methodist students within the rich ecumenical environment of the Seminary and bridges the work of the Seminary to the wider Methodist connections (AME, CME, UMC). He is also the pastor of Elm Grove United Methodist Church in Burlison, TN.

Before coming to Memphis Theological Seminary, Dr. Ramsey pastored United Methodist congregations in Atlanta, Georgia and Clarksville, Tennessee. He is married to Mary Leslie Dawson-Ramsey, an ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church, and has two grown children, Shelley and Luke.  In his spare time, Lee enjoys fly-fishing, gardening, fiction and poetry, and cannot walk enough with a dog named Annie.
