The Born of Conviction statement symbolizes, for me, the prophetic part of the pastoral calling: what should you say in times of crisis? What are situations where you need to make a stand even if it’s going to upset people near you, in your church, or if you’re a pastor?
On Friday, October 11th and Saturday, October 12th MTS hosted the Ingram Lecture Series at Lindenwood Christian Church with Dr. Joseph Reiff, the Chair and Professor of Religion at Emory & Henry College. Dr. Reiff spoke on his book, Born of Conviction: A Story of White Methodists in 1960s Mississippi, which tells the story of 28 Methodist pastors who decided to speak out in faith against oppression and in defiance of mainstream Mississippi culture.
