Farris Blount, III serves as the Tyrone Adam Burroughs Assistant Professor of Theology at Memphis Theological Seminary where he teaches courses on Christian theology, ecclesiology, and theologies of race, gender, & justice. He earned his B.A. in International Relations from Stanford University, his Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Harvard Divinity School, and PhD in Practical Theology from Boston University School Of Theology. His research interests lie at the intersection of the church & society as he seeks to explore how we can build communities of care, concern, and human flourishing. Farris also has extensive ministry experience, as he was licensed to preach the gospel and served as the Executive Pastor at Western Avenue Baptist Church in Cambridge, MA, for 8 years and currently serves as a minister at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. He does his best to embrace and live by the Greatest Commandment given by Jesus in scripture: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
