• The application window for the Fall 2024 internships at West Cancer Center is now open. We are  seeking 3 students to serve as chaplaincy interns at the West Cancer Center (WCC) of Memphis,  7945 Wolf River Blvd, Germantown, TN 38138.  

• The intern will work an average of 10 hours per week (120 hours per semester) at WCC, offering  care and support for patients through their treatment as instructed and supervised by WCC’s  leadership. The starting date for the Fall 2024 Internship is the week of August 26, 2024. 

WHAT DOES THE CHAPLAINCY INTERN GET BEYOND AN EXTRAORDINARY  CLINICAL EXPERIENCE? 

o Stipend: Students will receive $2,250 upon completing the internship. 

o Credit Hour Option: For the Fall 2024 semester, students may take FM200 Formation  and Contextual Ministry as an independent study. You must communicate your  intention to seek credit hours for the internship with your application.  

• First-time interns may be eligible for a second internship with the recommendation of WCC’s  supervisory leadership and the Director of CPWCS. Should a second semester be granted, the  student will receive an additional $2,250.  

Eligibility Requirements: 

Any MDiv or MACM student may apply. Students pursuing a Specialization in Chaplaincy Studies,  MDiv, or MACM are given first preference. 

• 15 Hours of Coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 

• Successful completion of these courses with a minimum grade of B 

o CS301 Introduction to Chaplaincy Studies OR PC200 Theology and Practice of Pastoral  Care 

Application:  

• Submit a cover letter indicating your intention to apply. In your letter, demonstrate that you meet  the eligibility requirements. Indicate whether you intend to seek credit hours for the internship.  • Write a 1,250-word essay (12 pt. Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins, double spaced)  articulating the desire to pursue the internship and how one understands the ministry of presence,  of “being with” someone as a chaplain without proselytizing.  

• Application essays will be emailed to Dr. Johnny Jeffords, Director of CPWCS, jljeffords@memphisseminary.edu. The application deadline is noon, July 15, 2024.  • Selected applicants will meet before a committee composed of the Academic Dean at MTS, the  Director of CPWCS, and leadership from WCC. Each candidate must interview with the  committee at West Clinic on a date determined in mid-August. 

• The Director of CPWCS will email recipients to notify them of the internship. Before beginning  their internship, interns are required to participate in an orientation session. • Interns will be subject to the procedures of WCC for employees.
