DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce that Dr. Mary Lin Hudson will be delivering the 2023 Bowen Lectures on Monday\, March 27 at 7:30 pm and Wednesday\, March 29 at 11:15 am at Hamilton Chapel on the Memphis Theological Seminary campus (with a Zoom option available). Dr. Hudson’s title for her lectures is “The Changing World of the Worshiping Church.” \nThe first lecture\, “The Times They Were a-Changing: Looking back with fresh eyes over 50 years of transition in preaching and worship” will be Monday\, March 27 at 7:30 pm (CDT). \nThe second lecture\, “The Times They Still Are a-Changing: Looking ahead to transitions in the future of preaching and worship” will be Wednesday\, March 29 at 11:15 am (CDT).\n \nA link to the Zoom webinar will be sent at noon (CDT) on March 27 and at 8:00 am (CDT) on March 29 to registrants. If you register after this point\, the link will be sent to you before the events begin. \nMary Lin Hudson is Professor of Homiletics and Liturgics at Memphis Theological Seminary. She joined the faculty of Memphis Theological Seminary in January 1988. Her research interests in the area of preaching include homiletic theology\, storytelling and narrative structures in sermon design\, and situational preaching for a 21st century world. \nIn the area of liturgics\, she explores the intersection of ethics and liturgical theology\, with particular interest in the meaning and practice of the sacraments of Eucharist and baptism. \nShe co-authored the book\, Saved From Silence: Finding Women’s Voice in Preaching (1999) with Dr. Mary Donovan Turner. She also contributed the sections on Advent and Christmas to New Proclamation: Year A in 2010.  Her early work focused on the ministry and preaching of Louisa Mariah Woosley\, the first ordained woman in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Hudson has authored journal articles\, book chapters\, book reviews\, and sermons for various publications. \nDr. Hudson is an ordained minister with the Missouri Mid-South Conference of the United Church of Christ. In that role\, she serves as a member of the Committee on Ministry: Preparation of the St. Louis Association. She is an active member of First Congregational Church of Memphis where she has served in numerous roles. \nBefore joining the faculty of Memphis Theological Seminary\, Dr. Hudson served as the pastor of the Cedar Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Greeneville\, TN. \n\nEach lecture event is worth 1 colloquia credit for MTS MDiv and MACM students. Harris for a combined lecture and dialogue with each other on ecology and intersectionality. If you register after this point\, the link will be sent to you before the event begins. \nDr. Carter’s talk is entitled\, “Environmental Justice in Times of Catastrophe.” \nRev. Dr. Christopher Carter’s research\, teaching\, and activist interests are in Black\, Womanist\, and Environmental ethics\, with a particular focus on race\, food\, and nonhuman animals. His publications include The Spirit of Soul Food (University of Illinois Press\, December 2021)\, “Blood in the Soil: The Racial\, Racist\, and Religious Dimensions of Environmentalism” in The Bloomsbury Handbook on Religion and Nature (Bloomsbury\, 2018) and the co-edited volume The Future of Meat Without Animals (Rowman & Littlefield\, 2016). In them\, he explores the intersectional oppressions experienced by people of color\, non-human nature\, and animals. Currently he is an Associate Professor of Theology at the University of San Diego\, Lead Pastor of The Loft at Westwood United Methodist Church\, and he is also on the board of directors of Farm Forward\, an anti-factory farming non-profit. \nDr. Harris’s talk is entitled\, “EcoMemory\, Ecowomanism and Healing Practices.” \nDr. Melanie L. Harris is Professor of Black Feminist Thought and Womanist Theology jointly appointed with Wake Forest School of Divinity and the African American Studies program at Wake Forest University. Dr. Harris is also the Director of the Food\, Health and Ecological Well-Being Program. Her research and scholarship critically examines intersections between race\, religion\, gender and environmental ethics. She is the author of many scholarly articles and books including Gifts of Virtue: Alice Walker and Womanist Ethics (Palgrave)\, Ecowomanism: Earth Honoring Faiths (Orbis) and co-editor of Faith\, Feminism\, and Scholarship: The Next Generation (Palgrave) as well as numerous journal articles and book chapters. DESCRIPTION:Memphis Theological Seminary is pleased to welcome Dr. Dwight Anthony Radcliff\, Jr.\, Senior Pastor of The Message Center and the Academic Dean for the Pannell Center for Black Church Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary\, as the Ingram lecturer for 2022. \n“We Have Been Missional: The Implications of James Evans’ Historic Work for a Contemporary Black Missiology” \nThursday\, October 13 at 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm CDT on-campus (in Hamilton Chapel) and on Zoom. Radcliff\, Jr.\, is the Senior Pastor of The Message Center and the Academic Dean for the Pannell Center for Black Church Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. As a pastor and church planter\, Dr. Radcliff started The Message Center\, a multi-cultural\, multi-generational church in 2006\, and he mentors a host of pastors and church planters. He has received recognition from state and federal officials for his work in the church and community. As an academic\, he holds an M.Div. and a Ph.D. from Fuller Seminary. His published research examines the impact of Hip Hop culture on African American preachers and builds a missiological hermeneutic. In 2019 he was appointed to the faculty of Fuller as assistant professor of mission\, theology and culture; making him the first African American professor in the history of the School of Intercultural Studies. Dr. Radcliff speaks to diverse groups across the country and internationally on a range of topics including preaching\, culture\, theology\, mission\, and church planting. He is a thoughtful scholar\, an insightful teacher\, and an anointed preacher who understands the importance of scripture and relevance to culture.
