Workshop Description: With words and no words, with Scripture and prayer, with singing and silence, and with writing and doodling, this retreat will cater to people of varied learning styles and engage the brain, heart, and body. Sybil MacBeth, author of Praying in Color: Drawing a New Path to God will lead participants in an active and contemplative way to pray using pen and markers. This retreat is not about creating an arts and crafts project but about using simple tools of an artist to focus and transcribe a visual and kinesthetic journey through Lent.

Absolutely no artistic ability necessary. For men and women. Supplies and snacks provided.

Workshop Leader: Sybil MacBeth is the author of Praying in Color: Drawing a New Path to God (2007), Praying in Color Kids’ Edition (2009), and Pray and Color: A Coloring Book and Guide to Prayer (2016). Praying in Color uses doodling and coloring as a way to get still and listen to God. Sybil combines her lifelong love of prayer with her experience as a community college mathematics professor to offer workshops and retreats throughout the U.S. and Canada. Her workshops, both prayerful and playful, engage people of varied learning styles.

Praying in Color has been translated into Spanish, Italian and Korean. Her 2014 book The Season of the Nativity: Confessions and Practices of an Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany Extremist invites people to experience the richness of the holiday season at home. Learn more at Sybil’s website and blog: prayingincolor.com.

Sybil has a B.S. from Randolph-Macon College and M.S. in Mathematics from the College of William and Mary. She is married to Andy MacBeth, an Episcopal priest and is the mother of two grown sons. As an adult she has lived a dozen different places and is constantly searching for “home.”
