ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Below are the requirements to be admitted into each program. By clicking Application in the bottom right corner of the selected program you will be able to download a written application. Applications can be emailed, faxed or mailed instructions are provided on the application. If you have any questions contact the Admissions Department.

Applicants who expect to apply for scholarships must meet the early application deadline for the program they are applying for in order to receive a scholarship for their first semester.

Master of Divinity

Criteria for admissions to the Master of Divinity (MDiv) – Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale. This degree must be from a college or university accredited by the regional accrediting association. No particular major is required for admissions.

Application Packet Includes:

  • Application form of specified Master’s degree program
  • A non-refundable application fee of $45
  • Reference Forms
    • 1 Clergy, 1 Lay, 1 Academic
  • Must include the Official transcript/s from all colleges, universities, and graduate schools applicant has ever attended. Official transcripts must be sent directly to the Admissions Department from the registrar of the transcript’s school.

Master of Arts Christian Ministry

Criteria for admissions to the Master of Arts Christian Ministry (MACM), applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale. Criteria for admissions to the Master of Arts (Religion) (MAR) degree, applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. This degree must be from a college or university accredited by the regional accrediting association. No particular major is required for admissions.

Master of Arts Youth Ministry

Criteria for admissions to the Master of Arts Youth Ministry (MAYM), applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale. This degree must be from a college or university accredited by the regional accrediting association. No particular major is required for admissions.

Application

Doctor of Ministry

Criteria for admissions to the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) program, applicant must have a Master of Divinity degree or the equivalency of this degree. Equivalency is determined by the registrar.

Application Packet Includes:

  • Application form for the Doctor of Ministry program
  • A non-refundable application fee of $60
  • Reference Forms
    • 1 Governing Body, 3 Recommendation Forms, 6 Assessments by Constituents.
  • Must include the Official transcript/s from all colleges, universities, and graduate schools applicant has ever attended. Official transcripts must be sent directly to the Admissions Department from the registrar of the transcript’s school.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction Counseling Certificate

Criteria for admissions to the Drug & Alcohol Addiction Counseling Certificate (DAAC) program, applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale. This degree must be from a college or university accredited by the regional accrediting association. No particular major is required for admissions.

Application Packet Includes:

  • Application form of specified program
  • A non-refundable application fee of $45
  • Reference Forms
    • 2 reference forms
  • Must include the Official transcript/s from all colleges, universities, and graduate schools applicant has received 12 or more credits. Official transcripts must be sent directly to the Admissions Department from the registrar of the transcript’s school.

Application

Netters Certificate in Ministry

Criteria for the Netters Certificate in Ministry is for persons who are active in congregational life but not interested in pursuing a Master’s level degree. This program is for associate ministers, Sunday School teachers, committee chairpersons and others who serve the church. No degree is required for this program.

Application Packet Includes:

  • Application form of specified certification program
  • A non-refundable application fee of $15

Application

Certificate in Theology and Arts

1. Earned any bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50 on a 4.0 scale OR completed the Special Student Form regarding exceptional qualifications

2. Completed the Admissions Packet:

  • Application form of specified Certificate Program
  • A non-refundable application fee of $15
  • Two reference forms
  • A personal essay of not less than one page and not more than five pages outlining the reasons the applicant is applying for this particular program including goals for his or her ministry or vocation.
  • If appropriate, the Special Student Form

3. Deadlines:

  • Fall Term – the third Monday of August
  • Winter Term – the third Monday of December
  • Spring Term – the third Monday of March

4. Curricular and Residency Requirements:

  • Courses are offered on a Pass/Fail grading system. To earn the certificate, students must Pass each course.
  • Because particular emphasis will be placed on the cultural context of Memphis and the Mid-South, all courses counted toward the certificate must be earned at Memphis Theological Seminary.
  • No courses will be transferred in from other institutions.

Rev. Melissa Malinoski

Rev. Melissa Malinoski

Director of Admissions

Melissa graduated from Bethel University in 1999 and from Memphis Theological Seminary in 2002.  As an ordained Cumberland Presbyterian minister, Melissa has served congregations in Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee.   She is married to Rev. T.J. Malinoski.  They are the parents of a son, Morgen and a daughter, Madeline.

Joanna Wilkinson

Admissions Associate

Joanna completed her undergrad from Southwest Baptist University in 2010 and a Master of Arts in Youth Ministry in 2013 from Memphis Theological Seminary. She has worked and served in youth ministry since 2007, currently serves with Junior High youth at Germantown CP Church. Missouri CP Presbytery certified her as a Youth Minister in the Fall of 2013. She and her husband Neal moved from Nashville where they both served in youth ministry to Memphis in the summer of 2015 and love living in the Midtown area.

Rev. Felecia LaVant

Rev. Felecia LaVant

Admissions Associate

Felecia completed her undergraduate degree in Sociology at Fisk University in 1982, and MDiv at Memphis Theological Seminary in 2014. She serves as an Associate Minister and the Director of Christian Education at Central Baptist Church, Inc. Felecia also volunteers with Manna House, a place of hospitality in the Catholic Worker Tradition. She is the proud mother of two adult daughters, Andraea and Alexandria.

Rev. Byron Forester

Rev. Byron Forester

Admissions Associate

Byron is a graduate of Bethel University (1974) and of Memphis Theological Seminary (2007). He serves as pastor of Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Benton Co. MS and as Coordinator of Ministries for West Tennessee Presbytery. He participates and serves in several ministries to people who are unsheltered. Byron and his wife, Michelle Brown have three daughters. They live five blocks from MTS.
