MTS hosted the second annual St. Patrick’s Day 4 Mile Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, March 11th. More than 100 racers and “Spirit Runners” registered to raise money for Room in the Inn – Memphis and the Ministry for the Real World Campaign.
The race began at the Seminary’s campus and wound a beautiful route through Midtown Memphis. Chilly temps were perfect for our runners and walkers, as cool breezes kept them from overheating and served as a reminder of how cold it can get outside—even in the Mid-South! On site, representatives from Room in the Inn – Memphis gathered donations for the more than 2,000 people experiencing homelessness in Memphis at any given time. During the coldest months of the year, area churches provide shelter, food, and hospitality to people who need it through Room in the Inn (a program brought to Memphis by MTS alumna, Lisa Anderson).
After all the racers had crossed the finish line, children lined up to participate in the 1 Mile Fun Run & Children’s Parade before the top finishers in each category were recognized and awards were distributed. Fabulous prizes for top finishers were donated by local organizations, and included a season subscription to Playhouse on the Square, an hour-long massage at A Great Massage, a gift card to Folk’s Folly steakhouse and two free memberships at The Box (a Crossfit/Krav Maga gym in Midtown Memphis). A gift card to Rock N Dough Pizza was given to the youngest race participant, and several others walked away with movie passes for Malco Theatres.
After the race, participants headed to Celtic Crossing to celebrate at the official St. Patrick’s Run/Walk after party.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered, sponsored, and participated in this race to raise awareness and funds for Room in the Inn – Memphis and our Ministry for the Real World campaign.
